In this course, students will explore the fundamental concepts of American government and economics. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of how our government functions and how economic systems impact our daily lives.

United States Government 

  • Historical Forces: We’ll delve into the historical forces that shaped both English and American governments. From the Magna Carta to the U.S. Constitution, we’ll examine the evolution of governance.
  • Forms of Government: Students will learn about different forms of government, including democracy, republicanism, and federalism. The three branches of government and how they work.
  • Citizenship and Elections: The course will cover the rights and responsibilities of citizens, as well as the election process.

Economics:

  • Basic Market Concepts: We’ll explore essential economic concepts such as scarcity, supply and demand, recession, depression, inflation, and government regulation.
  • Personal Finance: Students will gain practical life skills related to personal finance, budgeting, and financial decision-making.
  • Modern Economic Issues: We’ll discuss contemporary economic challenges, including poverty, the national debt, and how this affects future education choices and job opportunities. 

Assessment:

Comprehension will be assessed through formative activities, current events, projects, multiple-choice, and short-answer exams. Students will have the opportunity to apply core concepts from readings to review activities.
