Integrated Health and Fitness

with Cayla Revels

Free

In this comprehensive exploration of health and well-being, we delve into all facets of human vitality. Our study encompasses physical, emotional, and social dimensions. We establish a foundational understanding by examining anatomy and body systems. A fresh perspective on diet awaits—while dissecting food components, we simplify dietary elements for accessibility.

Topics covered span a wide spectrum, including personal health care, pharmaceuticals, aging, alternative medicine, and the interplay between environment and health. Fitness is integral; students participate in regular aerobic and strength-building exercises. Students are given opportunities to share their favorite activities by teaching mini-lessons to the class. Students are exposed to group sports and activities, learning rules, and playing together during in-person class time. The value of exercise for optimal brain function becomes evident.

Projects in this course offer a wide range of learning experiences, including research, multimedia presentations, personal reflection, and more. Our readings draw from current, evidence‑based work in the field, and students are encouraged to stay informed about health topics through reliable media sources. We also examine how societal and medical factors shape diet, behavior, and overall well‑being.

The new time offering allows full use of the gym and field, providing expanded physical activity opportunities during most class meetings.
