- Aesthetics and Style: Investigate visual techniques, mise-en-scène, and the language of cinema.
- Narrative Strategies: Analyze storytelling structures, character arcs, and plot devices.
- Film Analysis: Develop critical skills to dissect and interpret visual storytelling, cinematography, editing, sound, and narrative structures.
- Genres and Movements: Explore various film genres (from classic Hollywood to global cinema) and significant cinematic movements.
- Representation and Identity: Discuss how films reflect and shape cultural norms, identities, and social issues.
- Production Basics: Gain insights into the filmmaking process, including pre-production, production, and post-production.
- Film Industry: Explore the business side of filmmaking, distribution, and exhibition.
Additional Components:

By the end of this course, you’ll have a richer appreciation for the magic that unfolds on the silver screen. Lights, camera, action! An Honors Option is available for an additional fee.
Required Materials: No textbook is required for this course. All material is teacher-provided. Students must have consistent access to a computer with a printer to print some material. Students must have the ability to view assigned films which may include paying to stream (Netflix, Youtube, etc) & a phone, camera, or computer with basic recording capability.
Coursestorm Online Enrollment is Free. Course Fee: $440/Honors $470. A $50 non-refundable course enrollment deposit will be billed immediately upon registration and applies toward your overall tuition. The balance must be paid by July 1, or select a payment plan of $195 payable by July 1 and November 1/Honors payment plan of $210 payable July 1 and November 1.
