This college prep lab course satisfies the required credit for Biology with labs necessary to graduate in SC and NC. This course focuses on scientific investigation through the study of living things and the world in which we live. Emphasis is placed on the Creator of all living things, and students will be exposed to scientific language, methods, concepts, research, and current technology. They will engage in lab investigations to foster development in the scientific method. There will be several labs using the microscope, such as learning how to mount and stain specimens and observing pond organisms. We will also dissect worms, crayfish, fish, and frogs and perform many more observations. Subject matter includes Classification systems, atoms, chemical structures, ecosystems, biomes, ecological communities, cell structure and function, cellular energy, DNA, proteins, cell cycles, and genetics (including inheritance, disorders, and technology). Students will also learn about viruses, protists, fungi, and the fascinating worlds of plants and animals. This class is very hands-on and will teach students how to write labs! Honors option available upon request. (AP recommendations given upon request).
Coursestorm Online Enrollment is Free—Course Fee: $500. A $50 non-refundable course enrollment deposit will be billed immediately upon registration and applies toward your overall tuition. The balance must be paid by July 1, or select a payment plan of $225 payable by July 1 and November 1.
Additional Fees: $40 lab fee, payable upon registration. Lab fee covers stains, specimens for dissections, copies, slides, coverslips, etc.

Required Materials: Exploring Creation with Biology, Apologia, 3rd ed only ISBN-13: 9781946506450. Amazon.com https://a.co/d/3uLEObE *The Apologia Student Notebook will not be used. A looseleaf notebook with at least two sections and pockets for handouts is needed. Safety goggles are provided, but the student can bring their own. Ten pairs of disposable gloves are required (2nd semester).
