Calendar Aug 18, 2026 at 1 pm, runs for 30 weeks

This college-prep lab course satisfies the required Biology credit and includes the labs required to graduate in SC and NC.  This course focuses on scientific investigation through the study of living things and the world we live in. Emphasis is placed on the Creator of all living things, and students will be exposed to scientific language, methods, concepts, research, and current technology. They will conduct lab investigations to foster the development of the scientific method. There will be several labs using the microscope, such as learning how to mount and stain specimens and observing pond organisms.  We will also dissect worms, crayfish, fish, and frogs, and perform many more observations. Subject matter includes Classification systems, atoms, chemical structures, ecosystems, biomes, ecological communities, cell structure and function, cellular energy, DNA, proteins, cell cycles, and genetics (including inheritance, disorders, and technology). Students will also learn about viruses, protists, fungi, and the fascinating worlds of plants and animals.  This class is very hands-on and will teach students how to write labs!
